Speed Cameras detectors and Radar detectors
are found throughout New Zealand. The police make extensive
use of unmarked patrol cars, and speed cameras operate on both
motorways and open country roads - usually from vans or cars
that will be parked on the left hand side of the road as
pictured here. Permanent fixed mounted speed cameras are also
located through out New Zealand. |

The speed camera programme was first introduced by the New
Zealand Police in 1993. The purpose of the speed camera
programme is to reduce vehicle crashes on high accident areas.
Overseas travellers are often photographed on New Zealand
roads coming from a open country highway into a small town or
village were the speed drops from the 100km open road speed to
either 70 or 50km per hour. |
